Golden Mediums and Additives
Mediums and Additives
GOLDEN Mediums and Additives offer artists infinite control of changing acrylic colors. They range in consistency from pourable to moldable. They may be used to create glazes, extend paints, build texture, change finishes and work as a gluing agent for collages. Because there are so many to choose from, an artist first needs to determine which characteristic(s) they are looking to change.

Golden Phosphorescent Medium
GOLDEN Phosphorescent Medium is a water-based acrylic medium that can be applied to various surfaces. The unique pigment used in its formulation is characterized by its ability to absorb and store natural and artificial light. When the light source is removed (i.e.: when the lights are turned off or the painted object is taken into a dark area), a bright, greenish glow is emitted for up to 15 minutes. The glow steadily diminishes as the stored light energy is released.
GAC 100 Medium
A liquid acrylic polymer emulsion useful for diluting and extending colors as well as increasing flexibility and film integrity. Wets out solids more readily than other polymers and is useful for creating homemade paints.
Golden GAC 400 Medium
A liquid acrylic polymer emulsion which dries to a hard, stiff film. When applied over a fabric support, such as cotton, linen or silk, the GAC 400 will serve to dramatically stiffen the support. This allows the artist to transform a lightweight fabric into a free-standing form that will hold its shape. If laundering stability is essential, the polymer can be heat-set.
Golden GAC 900 Medium
A liquid acrylic polymer emulsion which when heat-set offers a very soft hand and laundering stability. This product is most useful to artists painting on clothing. GAC 900 can be blended with various acrylic colors to produce fabric paints that can be airbrush, hand brush or screen applied.
Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid (gloss)
A general purpose liquid medium useful for creating glazes, extending colors, enhancing gloss and translucency and increasing film integrity. Has a unique feel that is much more oil-like or resinous in nature and that promotes flow and levelling.
Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid (satin)
A liquid medium useful for extending colours, decreasing gloss and increasing film integrity. Useful for blending with GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics to decrease the gloss, without increasing viscosity.
Golden Polymer Medium (gloss)
A general purpose liquid medium useful for creating glazes, extending colours, enhancing gloss and translucency and increasing film integrity. Has a unique feel that is much more oil-like or resinous in nature and that promotes flow and levelling.
Golden Fluid Matte Medium
GOLDEN Fluid Matte Medium is a liquid medium useful for extending colours, decreasing gloss and increasing film integrity. This product is particularly useful with GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics to decrease gloss without altering viscosity. Also useful as a translucent ground on canvas. GOLDEN Fluid Matte Medium has better sealing properties than the regular Matte Medium.
Golden Matte Medium
GOLDEN Matte Medium is a pour-able acrylic medium useful for extending colours for economy, increasing translucency and decreasing gloss. It also increases film integrity when excessive pigment/filler solids or water is added. The most translucent of the matte mediums and gels, GOLDEN Matte Medium is also useful as a translucent ground.
Golden Airbrush Medium
GOLDEN Airbrush Medium is a 100% acrylic binder system designed for modifying the GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics and other GOLDEN Acrylic products for airbrush/spray application. While designed with the Fluid Acrylics in mind, GOLDEN Airbrush Medium will also reduce the Heavy Body, Matte, High Load, Iridescent/Interference and Fluorescent Acrylics for spray applications. GOLDEN Mediums and Gessoes can also be blended with Airbrush Medium for spraying.
Golden Retarder
Slows drying in acrylic paints and reduces skinning on the palette. Useful in 'wet in wet' techniques.
Golden Acrylic Flow Release
GOLDEN Acrylic Flow Release is a surfactant. A surfactant is a concentrated surface-active liquid which reduces surface tension, thus improving wetting and increasing the flow of acrylic waterborne paints.
A surfactant is used several ways in acrylic paint making. Surfactants are used to "wet out" pigments to ease their introduction into an acrylic resin, medium or gel. They can also be added to thinner paint mixtures, such as stains, to help reduce surface tension.
Acrylic Flow Release is very useful for staining techniques, as it dramatically reduces the surface tension between the stain (paint/water) and the support. Certain supports, especially raw canvas, are inherently water repelling in nature and require the use of such a surface-active agent to allow the stain to wet and penetrate into the support.
Silkscreen Medium
A water-borne system designed to blend with acrylic paints for silkscreen application. Increases working time and retards paint from drying in the screen. Safe to use with minimal odour. Mix 1 part Silkscreen Medium with 1 part GOLDEN Acrylic colours (Heavy Body, Matte or Fluid) and use this mixture to screen with.
The Silkscreen Medium is not designed to impart opacity, hence the opacity of the mixture will be determined by the nature of colour being used and the ratio of paint to Medium used.
Spectrum Copolymer Emulsion
100% acrylic resign, used to extend acrylic colours and increase gloss. It can be used with pigments to make your own acrylic paint.
