Golden Artist Colours

These products offers a range in consistency from pourable to mouldable with various levels of transparency and finish. Experimentation is recommended. They may be used to create glazes, extend paints, build texture, change finishes and work as a gluing agent for collages.

Make more paint!

Golden Gel Mediums allow you to make more paint. Just add colour to a Gel to extend the paint volume for greater economy. Increase the Gel/colour ratio to create any degree of transparency desired.

Change your paint surface!

Golden Gel Mediums and Moulding Pastes allow you to change the level of gloss of your paint. If you wish to make your colour matte, just add one of the matte gels! You can also easily change the working properties by mixing thicker or thinner gels with colour to various consistencies.

Create texture in paint!

Golden Gel mediums and Moulding Pastes allow you to change your paints texture. Just add one of the textured gels to your colour! You can also easily change the working properties by mixing different particle sizes with colour. The Pumice Gel and Light Moulding Paste work great.

 GOLDEN Mediums
Polymer Medium (Gloss) is a general-purpose liquid medium useful for creating glazes, extending colours, enhancing gloss and translucency and increasing film integrity. Its unique "feel" is oil-like, promoting flow and levelling. Use to thin Heavy Body paint in place of water.

Fluid Matte Medium is a liquid medium useful for extending colours, decreasing gloss and increasing film integrity. Particularly useful for blending with GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics to decrease gloss. May be used as a clear gesso ground.

Matte Medium is commonly used to thin Heavy Body paint and will effectively reduce gloss. May be used as a clear gesso for canvas or other supports. It adds a tooth, but remains translucent allowing the natural surface of the canvas to show through,

Acrylic Glazing liquid, designed for Faux Finishers, has been found by painters to be a blessing for keeping acrylic paint wet longer on the palette and for painting outdoors. Use with small amounts of fluids for rich deep glazes that will stay wet longer allowing extended time for blending.

Airbrush Medium is designed for modifying GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics for spray application by effectively decreasing clogging and tip build up during spraying. This mixture is recommended for spraying on garments. Airbrush Medium may also be used to thin other GOLDEN Acrylic products such as Iridescent / Interference Acrylics and Gesso for spray application.

GAC I 00 - Universal Acrylic Polymer is useful for diluting and extending colours as well as increasing flexibility and film integrity. Wets out solids more readily than other polymers and is useful for artists formulating their own paints.

GOLDEN Additives
Retarder is an additive used to increase the open (drying) time of acrylic paints. Useful for "wet in wet" techniques and reducing skinning on the palette.

Acrylic Flow Release is an additive used to reduce surface tension of the water in the acrylic emulsion, increasing the flow of the paint. It is effective for achieving rich stains on a porous surface.

GOLDEN Gessos & Grounds
Gesso and Black Gesso are ready-to-use liquid grounds formulated for the use of acrylics on any commonly used painting surface. They are flexible and can be applied in thin layers to conform to a waited of textured surfaces without cracking. Apply at least three layers of gesso for oil painting over acrylic gesso.

Absorbent Ground is an acrylic liquid surfacing medium that dries to a porous, paper-like surface. Applied over gessoed canvas, it is flexible and allows for raw canvas-like staining and watercolour effects.

Acrylic Ground for Pastels is a liquid acrylic ground designed for the preparation of surfaces for the application of pastels. This ground can be applied to paper, canvas, wood and other supports common to the art market. The ground dries with a rough or gritty surface providing the proper tooth to accept Pastels, Graphite, Charcoal Coloured Pencils, Crayons, Oil Sticks, even Watercolour. Coloured pastel surfaces can be made by tinting the ground with a few drops of paint.

GOLDEN Varnishes
Polymer Varnish with UVLS (UltraViolet Light Stabilisers) is a waterborne acrylic polymer varnish that dries to a protective, flexible, dust resistant surface over acrylic paint. Removable with ammonia. Available in Gloss, Satin and Matte.
Health Labelled (HI) Products. Not for use by children.

MSA (Mineral Spirit Acrylic) Varnish with UVLS (UltraViolet Light Stabilisers) is a Mineral Spirit Acrylic home resin system. MSA Varnish forms a tougher, less permeable film than waterborne acrylic emulsion varnishes. It reduces dirt penetration and surface marring, offering an extremely level film with less foam and fewer pinholes. Removable with turpentine after drying. Available in Gloss, Satin and Matte.
Health Labelled (HI) Products. Not for use by children.
Recommended for either interior or exterior use.

GELS
Soft Gel
Soft Gel has a creamy consistency. When mixed with a small amount of colour it will produce a rich brilliant glaze. A wonderful new addition to collage. Its smooth bodied consistency enables movement and placement of collage materials and it is not as "wet" as Matte Medium, so there is less curl to paper collage pieces. Creates soft rolled edges of paint strokes in contrast to a heavier gel. Creates beautiful velvety textures when painting into with soft brushes.

Regular Gel
Regular Gels are creamy like Heavy Body Acrylic colours and are ideal for extending paint and regulating transparency without changing the consistency of the Heavy Body colours. Useful for impasto glazing effects.

Heavy Gel
Heavy Gels are thicker than Heavy Body Acrylic colours and may be blended with colours to increase body Excellent for holding peaks. They dry translucent.

Extra Heavy Gel
Extra Heavy Gels, along with High Solid Gels, are the thickest GOLDEN gels and create thicker textures than Heavy Gels. Excellent for holding peaks. They dry translucent.

Extra Heavy Gel / Moulding Paste
A blend of Extra Heavy Gel and Moulding Paste, dries to a satin, semi opaque finish. Blends well with colours. Excellent for increasing viscosity and building surfaces.

High Solid Gel
This is really stiff and thick. Wonderful for palette knife effects and major impasto looks. Shrinks less than all the other gels. The matte High Solid Gel creates a very waxy look. Holds very sharp deep Scrafitto incisions when carved into while wet.

Extra Coarse Clear Granular Gel
Clear, tiny, transparent plastic particles loaded into a gel. Creates very unusual surfaces and dries clear, creating unique glazing applications. Wash colour over dried layers of Granular Gel for unusual effects.

Clear Tar Gel
Very long stringy rheology, which means it will pour in long narrow drips without breaking. Mix a bit of colour with it and "draw" as it drips off the end of a palette knife or brush. Makes flat shiny or "oily" like surfaces when laid out with a palette knife. Very "pulley" to paint with. Create some wild marble effects by dropping colour onto a layer of wet. Tar Gel and using combs to "marble" or you can paint directly into the wet surface.

Pumice Gels
Three grades of gritty textures: Fine, Coarse and Extra Coarse. Fine Pumice Gel dries to a finely textured surface because the particles are very small imparting a velvety quality to the paint. Useful for creating grounds for Pastels, Oil Pastels and Paint Sticks. Coarse and Extra Coarse Pumice Gel create coarse granular concrete-like textures. Add colour to any Pumice Gel or wash fluid glazes onto the grainy texture and you can create almost "sparkly" looks. Great textures for use of drybrush techniques.

Garnet Gels
A beautiful assortment of gritty textures with speckled colour ranging from a warm rosy grey umber to a pink umber with rosy sienna grains in Fine, Coarse and Extra Coarse grit. In a more traditional use, create wonderful textures for beach, landscape, foliage, and rock formations. Create abstract textures or unusual coloured grounds and surfaces for Pastels, Oil Pastels and oil sticks.

Light Moulding Paste
Offers dramatic weight reduction, Its unique whitens creates extraordinary qualities when mixed with colour. A "space age" microscopic air bubble replaces the marble dust in regular Moulding Paste making it 50% lighter. This material gives the Light Moulding Paste a "fluffy" consistency similar to cake frosting or whipped cream. When dry, it his an oddly absorbent quality that allows for some beautiful rich saturated washes of colour.

PASTES
Hard Moulding Paste
Provides the hardest opaque, matte finish. It blends well with GOLDEN Acrylic colours. Hard Moulding Paste is useful for creating tough, durable finishes. Slightly self-levelling for smooth hard surfaces or rounded peaks. The dried film can be carved with hand or power tools.

Moulding Paste
Because Moulding Paste is made with white marble dust, it dries to a hard opaque white surface. It can be used for texturing and palette knifed out, it resembles a fresco surface. Used as a ground to paint on, the hardness will keep paint sitting on the surface and is totally non absorbent.
