Golden Open Acrylics are different to conventional acrylic paints as they have a longer working time (up to 24 hours). They stay wet on the palette longer and resist skinning. The Longer drying time means the artist can experiment with a variety of painting techniques such as glazing, shading, wet in wet, fine detail and plein air, or with monoprinting or screen printing. Once dry the acrylic becomes permanent and can be varnished in the normal way.

Golden Open Acrylic also includes it's own special range of mediums which are designed to maintain the longer drying times. The acrylic can be mixed with the other types of Golden mediums, although the working time will then be significantly reduced.

Golden Acrylic can all be considered vegan with the exception of Bone Black, Jenkins Green, Prussian Blue Hue, Terre Verte Hue and Neutral Gray 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Golden as a company do not test on animals, however some of their raw materials will have been tested on animals. This is because regulations require that the potential toxicity of chemical substances be determined in order to help safeguard consumers and the environment. The good news is that Europe is leading the world in requiring that companies make such data available to everyone in order to prevent the need for duplicate testing, therefore these test's are accepted as one off's and would not be repeated.
