Intober 2023 - Prompt list

Inktober is an art challange that runs every October. It was created to encourage people to draw every day to see how their skills develop through regular practice. Inktober has a real community feel to it; you can share your work with others and see what everyone else is creating.

The rules are simple: draw a picture every day using paper and ink and share it on Instagram using the hashtags #inktober and #inktober2024. You can also draw once a week, or whenever you can, and you can use whatever materials you like, not just ink. Digital drawing is also allowed.

The Inktober prompts change every year to keep things interesting. There is a simple, one-word prompt for every day of the month and you can interpret them any way you like. It's wonderful to see the different responses and interpretations a simple prompt such as 'rise' evokes!

Inktober traditionally uses black ink on white paper because it allows for a quick and simple drawing which you can complete every day. But you can really just use whatever you have at your disposal. If you go with tradition, or want to try ink because you haven't before, think outside the box! Ink can be a lot of things from a bottle of India ink applied with a brush or dip pen to fineliners, brushpens and all sorts of wonderful materials. Consider adding a pop of colour!
