Gamblin Relief Ink

GBR

Gamblin Relief Inks are formulated for all relief techniques, including woodblock, linocut, monotype, and Solarplate. They contain the right amount of stiffness and tack to hold fine detail yet spread evenly on the block or plate. The palette of ten colours is designed to give artists intense pure pigmented colours straight from the jar, along with a wide range of colour mixing capabilities.

Monotype printmaking, the most painterly of printmaking techniques, is very popular. While most painters and printmakers working in this process learn how to make any kind of ink work, the viscosity of Gamblin Relief Inks makes them ideal for monotype printing processes. Gamblin Relief Inks are all bound in the highest quality Burnt Plate Oil.

Gamblin relief ink can also be used on light coloured fabric, as well as their specially formulated textile black (formerly Drive-by). Here are the instructions to do so:

With your block inked up, lightly spray the fabric with water. With moderate to high pressure, pass your relief block through the press twice.  Both Gamblin Textile Black and Relief Inks on fabric should be allowed to air dry. DO NOT HEAT SET.  Dry time will vary depending on the colour, thickness of application, temperature, humidity and air flow- anywhere from 3-7 days. Cold and/or humid environments can easily extend the dry time of textile prints. We also recommend giving newly dried printed fabric an additional week or two to cure before laundering.

Relief Ink colours are mostly transparent, so printing on medium to dark fabrics requires adding some white ink to increase the mixtures covering strength. Another option is to print in two layers; white first, followed by the coloured ink on top after the white layer is completely dry.
