Save 10% when you buy 6 or more Conte Sketching Crayons!
Developed in France at the end of the 18th century by Nicolas-Jacques Conte, these popular, lightfast, square shaped pastels are harder and waxier than traditional soft pastels. They are easy to blend and versatile: using the edges for detail or on the side for shading.
Suitable for use on a variety of surfaces, their rich opacity makes them particularly effective on darker coloured paper. The range now includes two special tints for portraits as well as crayon sets.
The Conté à Paris Sketching crayons include various highly reputed Sanguine colours, Grey and Bistre, 3 grades of white and black complete the range. These crayons are very soft to apply and manufactured using natural pigments (iron oxides, carbon black, titanium dioxide), clay (kaolin) and a binder (cellulose ether).
